Hedging in a swamp | posted: 26/4/2008 at 10:00:41

A few weeks ago we wandered over to the other side of this vast county of Devon to buy swamp cypress (Taxodium disticum) at a hedging and tree wholesaler. Seems there’s been a run on them this winter as they only had 5 left and we wanted 10...... We therefore attempted to move two swamp cypress we planted a couple of years ago, but their roots make a big impression in the ground and we decided not to force the issue with them!
The swamp cypress are for another (experimental) hedge on very wet ground. We’ve given up looking for an evergreen plant that almost swims in the soil.
We also purchased 10 more hollies for around David's new Grotto and 30 more Western Red Cedar for both ends of our long meadow so we don't have to look at the distant neighbours monstrous excuses for landscaping / gardens!
