The National Gardens Scheme (NGS)in Devon raised £118,000 in 2009 up from £109,000 in 2008 – a tremendous result in a year beset by recession and bad weather. Nationally the results were excellent as well, with the garden income up 14% to £2.8 million and the all important distribution to charities up £793,000 to £2.4 million and this in a year when countrywide charity giving was down by 11%. So a big thank you to all garden visitors in ensuring that the NGS bucked the national trend.
